Barbados Royals clinch thrilling win over Kings

Rodrigues, Knight shine as Supernovas secure victory in FairBreak Invitational opener

The Caribbean Premier League (CPL) Twenty20 tournament got off to a thrilling start on Tuesday, with the Jamaica Tallawahs pulling off a stunning upset over defending champions Trinbago Knight Riders by eight runs in the opening match of the season.

Put into bat first, the Tallawahs posted a challenging total of 161 for seven, thanks to a brilliant half-century from Kennar Lewis (55) and a cameo from Rovman Powell (31).

In reply, the Knight Riders, led by Kieron Pollard's 36, fell short of the target despite a late surge from Andre Russell (22) and Akeal Hosein (20).

In another exciting match, the Barbados Royals edged out the St Kitts & Nevis Patriots by three wickets in a last-ball thriller.

Chasing a modest target of 128, the Royals were cruising at one stage but lost their way in the middle overs. However, a late cameo from Azam Khan (20 not out) helped them scrape over the line with just one ball to spare.

In other results, the Guyana Amazon Warriors defeated the St Lucia Kings by 24 runs, while the Supernovas beat the Tornadoes by 10 wickets in the opening match of the FairBreak Invitational women's tournament.

Jemimah Rodrigues (75 not out) and Kycia Knight (50 not out) starred with the bat for the Supernovas, while Salma Khatun (3-22) was the pick of the bowlers.
