Gary Shaw, member of England's triumphant 1982 European Under-21 Championship-winning team, dies aged 63

Former Aston Villa forward played 11 times for England at under-21 level

Scored in semi-final victory over Scotland during run to success in West Germany

Gary Shaw, a member of England's triumphant 1982 European Under-21 Championship-winning team, has died at the age of 63.

Shaw, who played 11 times for England at under-21 level, was part of the squad that lifted the trophy in West Germany under the management of Dave Sexton.

The forward scored in the semi-final victory over rivals Scotland, preceding a 3-1 win over West Germany in the final.

Shaw made over 100 appearances for Aston Villa during two spells with the club and was a member of the squad that won the European Cup in 1982.

Having started his career with Walsall, Shaw initially joined Villa in 1980, spending four years at the club and scoring 26 goals before departing for West Brom.

He returned to Villa Park in 1987, and went on to play for Cardiff, Exeter and Kidderminster before retiring in 1995.

His passing will undoubtedly be a big loss to the football world and he will be fondly remembered by fans of the beautiful game for his time in the claret and blue colors of Aston Villa.
